"SPECTRUM… between sound and silence"
The Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival (YCMF) is a contemporary music festival that constitutes part of the agenda and official collaboration between HIMA Music, Indonesian Institute of Art, Yogyakarta (HIMA Musik ISI Yogyakarta), the Independent Composers Community Yogyakarta (ICCY) and the Association of Indonesian Composers (AKI). In previous years, this festival has taken place every September at various locations around Yogyakarta and this year it will be held at Benteng Vredeburg and Lembaga Indonesia Prancis Yogyakarta from September 12-13, 2007.
A number of composers have already indicated their interest in participating, such as New Zealand composers Jack Body, Ross Carey, Lisa Kim, and Leon DeLorenzo, Ross Harris, Japanese composers Daesuke Terauchi, Motohide Taguchi, Miyake Tamaho, and ethnomusicologist Shin Nakagawa, besides a famous Japanese violinist Rieko Suzuki who will present a number of works by Japanese composers such as Toru Takemitsu, Yuji Takahashi, Toshi Ichiyanagi, etc.
This festival will be attended by composers from various parts of Asia, America, Canada and Europe. They will be performing new works as well as conducting workshops and discussion forums, making an important contribution towards the development of opinion, technique and philosophy in the field of contemporary art music.
